Grey Kitchen Ideas

My kitchen, while nice, I find to 1990s. It reminds me of the kitchens in the places my husband and I first lived in. The natural color wood cabinets, the cheap countertops.
I need an update.
I am planning on redoing my kitchen (on a VERY slim budget - stay tuned for those posts). But in the meantime, I need some ideas to save.
So I hit up Pinterest and found some of my favorite kitchen ideas that I would like to implement but on a budget.
First up - I originally wanted white cabinets. I live in New England and love that feel. However, I don't want white cabinets. Yes I realize that makes no sense. So I thought of some options and love the whole grey kitchen look. It still feels farmhouse like but it isn't white.
First I thought light grey. I like how this kitchen from Planet Furniture is just a little bit grey. It could be confused with white. I love the crisp clean look of it.
This cute house redo featured on ElleDecor is a fun take on grey. It's probably a little darker than I want to go. But I do like the complimentary grey wall too.
This one I like the color but the look is too modern for me. Though you might like it. A color like this definitely wouldn't work with a dark colored counter though.
Over at Maison de Pax they are showing the two tone cabinets. The uppers are white and the lowers are grey. I see this on the DIY shows etc all the time and in magazines. I like the idea, but I get a feeling that my OCD would kick in and the fact that they don't match would drive me crazy.
Years ago my husband worked for a soapstone dealer. I fell in love with the way soapstone looked. Plus its old time feel. One thing I worry about though is if I put the dark color of the stone with the light grey cabinets, will it make the room more dark and not a place you'd want to hang out in? In this pic, featured on Houzz, the look doesn't look bad. Not sure though. What do you think?
I swear Dear Lillie has the whole grey farmhouse look NAILED down! This is all what I want. Initially I wanted dark soapstone (hence why I wanted a light grey) but this look is doing it for me something fierce. The whole look is perfect. From the dark exposed beams to the light choices. Just top notch.
One of the hard things I've noticed is when I am looking for ideas a lot of the grey kitchens are more modern. So weeding out to find what I want is proving to be a little challenging!. But I will get there.
